Overview

One week, one loop, the whole country. Our 8 day Morocco tour from Marrakech is designed for travelers who want to see the big names in a single trip without planning trains, transfers and hotels themselves. It starts and ends in Marrakech, so it works perfectly with a round-trip flight via Casablanca or Europe.

From a welcome dinner in Marrakech, you travel north to Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque and the capital, Rabat, then into the Rif mountains for a night in blue-washed Chefchaouen. Next come the Roman ruins of Volubilis, the imperial city of Meknes and two nights in Fes, including a guided tour of the world’s largest car-free medina. The second half heads south over the Middle Atlas to the dunes of Merzouga for a camel trek and desert camp, then back through the Todra and Dades gorges and Aït Benhaddou to Marrakech.

It is a shared small-group tour, maximum 17 travelers, with weekly departures and a fixed €690 per person. Need help timing your trip? Our guide on how many days you need in Morocco compares 5, 7, 10 and 15-day plans.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Arrival in Marrakech, welcome dinner

Welcome to Morocco. Make your own way to your hotel or riad in Marrakech, or ask us to arrange a transfer from the airport. Depending on your arrival time, spend the afternoon getting your bearings in the medina: the Koutoubia minaret, the souks and the square of Jemaa el-Fna, which comes alive with food stalls and storytellers at dusk. In the evening, meet your driver and fellow travelers at a welcome dinner, where we go through the week ahead and answer your questions. Get some rest; tomorrow the road trip begins.

Overnight: Hotel or riad in Marrakech Meals: Dinner

  2. Day 2 Marrakech – Casablanca (Hassan II Mosque) – Rabat

After breakfast, drive north across the plains to Casablanca, about three hours away. Visit the Hassan II Mosque, built partly over the Atlantic, with one of the tallest minarets in the world. Guided interior visits run at set times (ticket not included), and modest dress is required. After lunch (not included) on the Corniche, continue to Rabat, the capital. Explore the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, then stroll through the white and blue lanes of the Kasbah of the Udayas above the river mouth. Dinner and overnight in Rabat.

Overnight: Hotel in Rabat Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  3. Day 3 Rabat – Chefchaouen

Leave Rabat after breakfast and head inland through farmland and olive groves toward the Rif mountains, around four hours on the road with a coffee stop. In the early afternoon you reach Chefchaouen, a mountain town whose medina is painted in every shade of blue. Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own: the main square of Outa el-Hammam and the red-walled kasbah, the Ras El Ma spring where locals wash wool, and the steep alleys that are a photographer's dream. For sunset, walk up to the Spanish Mosque on the hill above town.

Overnight: Hotel or riad in Chefchaouen Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  4. Day 4 Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

After breakfast, drive south through the hills to Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk among its triumphal arch, basilica and mosaic floors, with views toward the holy town of Moulay Idriss (entrance and site guide not included). Continue to Meknes, the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, to see the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the lively El Hedim square. In the late afternoon, drive the last hour to Fes. Check in, have dinner and get ready for a full day in the medina.

Overnight: Hotel or riad in Fes Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  5. Day 5 Fes guided visit

Today a licensed local guide takes the group into Fes el-Bali, the oldest of Morocco's imperial medinas and a maze of more than 9,000 lanes. Highlights usually include the Bou Inania or Al-Attarine madrasa with their carved cedar and zellij tiles, the Nejjarine fountain, the outside of the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university, and the Chouara tannery seen from a leather shop terrace. You also visit artisan workshops of weavers, coppersmiths and potters. The afternoon is free to shop, visit a hammam or return to your favorite corner of the medina.

Overnight: Hotel or riad in Fes Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  6. Day 6 Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga, desert camp

An early start for the drive south, around 8 hours with stops. Cross the Middle Atlas via Ifrane, the alpine-looking resort town, and the cedar forest near Azrou, home to Barbary macaques. Have lunch (not included) in Midelt, then descend into the Ziz Valley, a canyon full of palm trees, and continue through Errachidia and Erfoud to Merzouga. At the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, swap the minibus for a camel and ride about an hour into the sand for sunset. Dinner, music and a night under the stars at a Berber camp.

Overnight: Desert camp in Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  7. Day 7 Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades

Wake up for sunrise over the dunes, then ride back to Merzouga for breakfast. Drive west through Erfoud and Tinejdad, past the khettara, centuries-old underground water channels that look like rows of craters. In Tinghir, follow the palm grove into the Todra Gorge and walk between cliffs up to 300 m high. After lunch (not included), continue to Boumalne and into the Dades Gorge, passing the Monkey Fingers rock formations. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in the gorge, with time to stretch your legs along the river.

Overnight: Hotel in the Dades Gorge Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  8. Day 8 Dades – Aït Benhaddou – Marrakech, end of tour

On your last day, follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs west through Kelaat M'Gouna, the town of roses, and the oasis of Skoura to Ouarzazate. Visit Aït Benhaddou, the UNESCO-listed ksar of earthen houses that has starred in films such as Gladiator, and climb to its hilltop granary. After lunch (not included), cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 m and descend to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening. The tour ends at your hotel or riad. If you fly the next day, ask us to book an extra night in Marrakech.

How the 8 day Morocco tour from Marrakech works

Departures: weekly, on a fixed day from Marrakech. Ask us for the next dates; groups fill earlier around Easter, October and the year-end holidays.

Getting there: from the US, Royal Air Maroc flies nonstop to Casablanca from New York JFK, Washington Dulles and Miami (as of October 2026), with easy connections to Marrakech. From the Caribbean you usually connect via the US or Europe. Check entry rules for your passport before booking; our travel guide for your country covers visas and flights.

Pace: mostly half-day drives with sightseeing, plus two long days to and from the desert. Walking in medinas is on uneven cobbles, so bring comfortable shoes.

What to bring: modest clothing for the mosque visit (shoulders and knees covered), layers for the mountains and desert nights, sunscreen, a scarf and dirhams for lunches, entrance fees and tips.

Moroccan journey

My family and I planned our own 10-day itinerary in Morocco. We hired a car with a driver to travel with us and enjoy everything Morocco has to offer. Salem, our driver, was a great person: kind, always available, and not just our driver — he suggested things to do, places to see and where to stay, and explained his traditions and culture…

How does the shared minibus work?

You travel with up to 17 travelers in an air-conditioned minibus with the same driver for the whole week. The itinerary, hotels and meals are shared, which keeps the price per person low.

Is the €690 price fixed?

Yes, it is a fixed price per person (about US$775 as of October 2026), regardless of group size. A deposit by PayPal secures your place; the balance is paid on arrival.

Is there a single supplement?

Yes, on request. If you prefer not to pay it, we pair solo travelers of the same gender in twin rooms where possible.

Are entrance fees included?

No. Budget for the Hassan II Mosque, Volubilis and the Fes madrasas; tickets are paid on the spot in dirhams. The Fes local guide is included.

Can I extend my stay in Marrakech?

Yes. Many travelers add a night or two before or after the tour. We can book extra nights and day trips, such as the Ourika Valley or Essaouira.
