3-Day Tangier to Fes Tour via Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Volubilis and Meknes

Three private days from the Strait of Gibraltar to Fes: Tetouan, a night in blue Chefchaouen, Volubilis, Meknes and a guided Fes medina.

  • 3 days
  • Tangier → Fes
  • Private
  • From J$ 65,284 (€365) per person

Overview

Arriving in Tangier by ferry from Spain or by train from Casablanca? This 3-day Tangier to Fes tour is the most rewarding way to cross the north of Morocco. You stop in white Tetouan, spend a night in blue Chefchaouen, walk among the Roman ruins of Volubilis, see the royal gates of Meknes and finish with a guided day in the Fes medina.

The private format makes the difference on these roads. Your English-speaking driver takes care of luggage, parking and timing, and lets you stop for the views across the Rif mountains. In Fes, a local guide leads you through the maze of the old medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The tour ends in Fes, an easy base for trains to Casablanca or flights onward. Want to add the Sahara? The 5-day Tangier desert tour continues to the dunes of Merzouga. Superior accommodation is available on both nights.

  • Tetouan's UNESCO-listed white medina
  • A night in blue Chefchaouen

Itinerary

  1. Day 1 Tangier – Tetouan – Chefchaouen

Pickup at your Tangier hotel, the ferry port or the train station. Drive about an hour to Tetouan and explore its white medina, built by Andalusian families and listed by UNESCO, with streets of tailors, silversmiths and spice shops around the royal palace square. Continue into the Rif mountains to Chefchaouen, arriving in the afternoon. Check in to your riad and spend the evening exploring the blue lanes, the Outa el Hammam square and, if you like, the walk up to the Spanish Mosque for sunset.

Overnight: Riad in Chefchaouen Meals: Dinner

  2. Day 2 Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

Take an early walk while Chefchaouen is quiet, then leave the mountains for the olive groves of the Zerhoun hills. Visit Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman city in Morocco, famous for its mosaics and triumphal arch; a site guide can be hired at the entrance. Continue to Meknes, the imperial city of Sultan Moulay Ismail, to see the monumental Bab Mansour gate and El Hedim square. Arrive in Fes in the early evening and check in to your riad for dinner.

Overnight: Riad in Fes Meals: Breakfast, dinner

  3. Day 3 Fes guided visit, end in Fes

Spend the day with a local guide in Fes el-Bali, the old walled medina. Enter through Bab Boujloud, visit the Bou Inania madrasa, glimpse the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and university from its doorway and watch the leather dyers at the Chouara tannery from a terrace above. Meet craftspeople working brass, cedar wood and ceramics, and stop for mint tea in a hidden courtyard. The tour ends in Fes in the late afternoon, at your hotel or the train station. Trains leave Fes regularly for Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech if you continue on your own.

Moroccan journey

My family and I planned our own 10-day itinerary in Morocco. We hired a car with a driver to travel with us and enjoy everything Morocco has to offer. Salem, our driver, was a great person: kind, always available, and not just our driver — he suggested things to do, places to see and where to stay, and explained his traditions and culture…

Frequently asked questions

Can we start the tour at the ferry port?

Yes. Ferries from Tarifa arrive at Tangier Ville port, close to the center. Ferries from Algeciras usually arrive at Tanger Med, about 45 minutes away. Tell us your ferry and we will meet you there.

How do we continue after Fes?

Fes has trains to Meknes, Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, and an airport with European connections. We can also extend the tour to the desert or to Marrakech.

Is one night in Chefchaouen enough?

For most travelers, yes. You see the town in the evening and early morning, its most beautiful moments. If you want more time, we can add a night.

What does the superior upgrade include?

More charming riads with extra comfort in Chefchaouen and Fes. You can choose it in the booking form and see the price per person straight away.

Any questions about this tour?
